The state of the united methodist church

You may be aware of the division facing the United Methodist Church. Since 1972, when language was added to our Book of Discipline stating that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, we have been divided over whether or not to remove that language or keep it. The history of this division is complex, but it has caused some to seek to leave the denomination (disaffiliate). Below you will find information regarding the state of the denomination along with a presentation given by Pastor Curt on September 25th, 2022, describing the current state of things and how we got to this point. You are invited to watch it below. If you have questions, or would like to visit with Pastor Curt, please call the church office, his door is always open.

  • In Layman's terms podcast

This podcast is produced by the conference communications director, Todd Seifert. Todd produced a four part series called "Future of the UMC." In the series Todd interviews several key members of our conference on the state of things  in the UMC and the process of disaffiliation. He closes the series by interviewing our Bishop Reuben Saenz Jr about the future of the church. It is a great resource that looks at both sides of the issue.

  • global methodist church

The Global Methodist Church was started in response to the division facing the United Methodist Church and seeks to be a denomination that holds to what it considers traditional and orthodox views. Some of the United Methodist congregations who have chosen to disaffiliate have chosen to join this denomination, but others have chosen to remain independent. You can find information about this denomination at this link.
